D&P students try to scoop up water that flowed from the stage into the deMille Orchestra Pit.

A Tornado Warning caused the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute's production to stop mid-way through the second act on its opening night, May 8, 2008. Audience members were initially escorted into the hall behind the seats after news of two tornados touching down in the vicinity arrived, and cast members were removed into one of the dance studios. More problems arose, however, when flooding occurred on the stage and water started leaking downstairs into the orchestra pit. D&P Students with shovels, brooms, mops, buckets, towels and pieces of carpet tried to remove the water before it moved further into the pit and ended up damaging the instruments, which were moved up onto risers.

The opera will continue for three more nights on May 9 and 10 at 8PM and May 11 at 2 PM in the Agnes deMille theatre on the NCSA campus. Tickets are believed to be sold out.
